Terracotta House
where Design meets Taste
Terracotta House is more than a home.
It’s a place where design, culture, and personal stories come together to create a unique experience.
Born from a vision of combining Mediterranean warmth with contemporary Italian style, Terracotta House reflects my passion for spaces that embody both beauty and meaning.
A Journey to Create a Home
The story of Terracotta House began when my family and I, Italian expats, settled in Eindhoven. Like many families, we were looking for a home that felt connected to who we are, a space that resonated with our lifestyle and roots. Finding that in a competitive housing market wasn’t easy, but when we finally did, we knew it was the beginning of something special.
The house itself had great potential, but it needed a significant transformation to become the home we envisioned. The kitchen, in particular, was destined to be the heart of the house, not just for cooking, but as a place to gather, share, and connect, reflecting the Italian way of life.
Where the Name Came From
The name Terracotta House didn’t come to life until the renovation began. During the process of stripping away the old layers of the kitchen, we uncovered something unexpected: a beautiful brick wall, hidden behind old tiles. This discovery felt like a direct link to the history of the house and the local Dutch building tradition. The bricks had a distinct terracotta hue, which immediately spoke to me as a symbol of earth, warmth, and craftsmanship.
Adding to this, the kitchen’s custom chandeliers — crafted by artisans from Puglia— serve as a direct link to my heritage. These handmade pieces, suspended over the kitchen island, are a tribute to the craftsmanship and traditions of my homeland, blending perfectly with the terracotta tones of the space.
Transforming a Home, Creating a Studio
Terracotta House is not only our home but also the studio for SandraPlacet Interior Designer, where I work to help others transform their own living spaces. The idea of this dual-purpose home and studio came naturally. My journey as an architect and interior designer has always been inspired by the desire to create homes that evoke emotions, spaces that help people reconnect with themselves and their surroundings.
I believe that every house can become a sanctuary, a place to slow down, reflect, and find beauty in the simple things.
The design philosophy of Terracotta House embraces a balance between natural materials, organic shapes, and a harmony of colors. From the raw textures of the exposed brick to the clean, modern lines of the furnishings, the space tells a story of past and present, tradition and innovation. It’s a house where every detail has a meaning, where the pieces are curated with intention and care.
